Hyperpigmentation is common medical term for darker patches of skin which can vary in size or colour. These occur as a result of an excess production of melanin (the pigment responsible for skin's colour) by the melanocytes (melanin producing cells).
MOST COMMON TYPES OF HYPERPIGMENTATION
CAUSES:
Hyperpigmentation can be a result of several factors:
Hormonal changes
Age
Genetic predisposition
Inflammation and skin injuries such as acne, sunburn or wounds
Certain pharmaceuticals and diseases are known to cause hyperpigmentation
Please note: You must consult your GP if you are concerned about any dark spots especially if you notice any other symptoms such a bleeding, itching or a change in size or colour.
RECOMMENDED TREATMENTS:
BESPOKE GLOW
A brightening facial that specifically targets hyperpigmentation and evens out skin tone using active ingredients such a Vitamin C, which improves the skin's natural defences while boosting radiance.
SKINBASE MICRODERMABRASION - HYPERPIGMENTATION
Microdermabrasion can help with pigmentation such as age spots, melasma, chloasma and lentigo. However, it may be difficult to completely erase these skin blemishes and it can take up to a maximum of 20 treatments to help reduce the look of these conditions. This is more than the normal course of treatments recommended for other skin complaints.
We will be able to advise on whether your pigmentation or skin blemishes can be treated effectively through microdermabrasion and the best course of treatment.
IPL - PHOTOREJUVENATION
Photorejuvenation is the broad term used to describe the treatment of photo-ageing which includes wrinkles, pigmentation and age spots. IPL treatment encourages the skin to repair itself by producing new cells and increasing collagen production. It is a very effective and non invasive form of treatment and requires no down-time. A SkinBase IPL photorejuvenation treatment will not only remove pigmentation and sun damage but also improve skin tone and reduce wrinkles. For a course of photorejuvenation for pigmentation, sun damage or fine lines and wrinkles we recommend a course of 3-6 treatments, 2-3 weeks apart.
CLINICCARE GLOW CHEMICAL PEEL
A superficial Glycolic acid and Mandelic acid peel effective in treating hyperpigmentation, age spots, sun damage and dull, tired skin. It stimulates cell renewal, inhibits melanin synthesis, brightens the skin and helps even out discolouration. Suitable for ALL Fitzpatrick skin types and those aged 18 years and over. Offered as a course of between 4-6 treatments leaving just 2 weeks between each treatment. Wait 6-8 weeks and repeat if necessary.
NANO INFUSION - CLINICCARE GLOW
Clients looking to achieve a more even complexion can benefit greatly from the infusion of ingredients that target excess melanin. Even just one treatment with nano can be effective for brightening the skin and giving the skin a healthy, radiant glow.
MICRONEEDLING & CLINICCARE GLOW
By creating microscopic wounds on the surface of the skin, it causes the body to deploy a healing response, stimulating collagen and elastin production. As a result, it can reduce scars and uneven skin texture and tone for a brighter, younger and more even complexion. A course of between 4 to 8 treatments is recommended every 4-6 weeks, followed by a maintenance treatment every 6 to 12 months.
